MAN D2066 LUH 47: Efficient Power
Efficient Power for Global Operations
The MAN D2066 LUH 47 is more than just an engine—it is the heart of an entire generation of city buses. As part of MAN’s proven D20 engine family, this unit was specifically developed for use in low-floor buses such as the MAN Lion’s City. For mechanics worldwide, this engine is a well-known reliable partner, valued for its longevity and ease of maintenance.
Technical Precision: The D20 Series
The D2066 LUH 47 is a water-cooled six-cylinder inline engine with a displacement of 10.5 liters. A crucial feature is the “LUH” designation, which stands for the horizontal layout (L-lying, U-underfloor, H-bus). This flat design is essential for modern low-floor concepts, as it allows the engine to be installed space-efficiently under the floor at the rear of the vehicle.
Fuel injection is handled by a second-generation Common-Rail system, ensuring precise combustion and smooth operation. In the LUH 47 variant, the engine typically delivers power ratings of 235 kW (320 hp) or 265 kW (360 hp), with a torque of up to 1,800 Nm.
The EEV Standard: Clean Without AdBlue
A technical highlight of this 2011 model is the EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) emission standard. At the time, EEV was the strictest voluntary emission standard in Europe, even surpassing the Euro 5 requirements. This is particularly interesting for workshops in regions with limited infrastructure: MAN achieved the EEV standard for many D20 engines through a combination of cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and a maintenance-free PM-Kat (particulate filter). This means many of these engines do not require AdBlue, significantly reducing operating costs and complexity compared to later Euro 6 models.
Use in the MAN Lion’s City
The MAN Lion’s City (A21, A23 series) shaped the landscape of European public transport for years. This specific 2011 spare part comes from the peak era of this series. These buses are designed for service lives of well over one million kilometers. Since new parts for the D20 series can be expensive, tested used engines offer an economical solution to keep these reliable vehicles in service for many more years.
With its robust construction and proven Common-Rail technology, the D2066 LUH 47 remains a first-class choice for the maintenance of existing fleets.
